No I dont think you will cause more vibration from drilling a hole in the muffler. I have a 1/2" hole I punched in my harley mufler and it didn't change a thing. I just removed a Jardine from my '87 and I didn't have to rejet or modify the carb in any way. If I remember right the instructions say no rejetting required. The thing to worry about with the Jardine is it rusting through on the back side. Had mine on for 3 years and it was already almost rusted clear through. The insallation of the Jardine is about as easy as it gets. As for sound, I loved the sound and yes it will still backfire. Mine did from day one till the day I removed it. The only thing I noticed change the backfire was humidity. I live in southeast GA and the very few times the humidity dropped down the Savage would backfire like crazy, with high humidity it was normal backfiring. If your going to change the muffler you might try a harley muffler. I recently changed to a stock muffler off of a road king( I think thats the right harley) and punched a 1/2" hole in the baffel. Sounds good and looks good. Cost: $0.00. Got it off a guy that removed it from his harley. Less than 2 years use and he never planned on using it again. YOu know how harley owners are.
